BUN 4 – Layer Participant contribution to Support the Development of Indonesia's Agricultural Sector

30 Jun 2022

Bertani Untuk Negeri 4 – Layer program has been running from February 2022 to the end of July 2022. A series of activities have been carried out, ranging from debriefing for participants to assisting farmers. In May, BUN 4 – Layer has engaged in 3 activities, such as: Career Coaching, Farmers Assistance, and Farmers Field School.

Career Coaching is a collaborative activity of Plan Indonesia with Edufarmers. This event took place from May 19 to May 20, 2022. The material presented aims to help participants be better prepared to face the reality of what they may face in the workplace and how to create a better work experience.

"Career coaching from BTF is very helpful in providing new  insights related to the world of work. Starting from communication to equal rights of workers. From this webinar, I learned a lot, and realized that these things are very important to be implemented when I work later," said one of the BUN 4 – Layer participants, Afandy.

Participants of Bertani Untuk Negeri 4 - Layers also carry out farmer assistance activities regularly. Participants will observe the conditions in the field, identify existing problems, find ideas, and then implement the ideas in the field. The challenge that is often encountered by participants in the early phases of this program is that it faces farmers with various characteristics. In addition, each farm has a different management pattern as well, so the participants must adapt and find the right way to approach the farmers. The participants are required to be creative in the field.

Finally, Farmer Field School, attended by farmers and BUN participants, is carried out every 2 weeks. The topics discussed were the conditions on the farm, such as the disease, management, record keeping, and other issues were discussed. BUN participants are trained to effectively gather information, communicate it to farmers, and create a pleasant learning environment, especially during discussion sessions. Farmers were given the opportunity to ask questions and convey the problems that occurred on their farm. This issue will be discussed together. Other farmers are also given the opportunity to provide suggestion from their experience, and participants can also share their knowledge. So, during the FFS, there will be a transfer of knowledge between participants and farmers, which hopefully will lead to the betterment of the agricultural industry in Indonesia.
