Pursue a Career on the Island of Borneo

31 Aug 2022

Bertani Untuk Negeri (BUN) Program has several goals, one of them is to improve the competence of young people, especially fresh graduates students of the agricultural and animal husbandry  programs, so that they will have qualified competencies according to the needs of the industry. Program BUN Batch 1 and 2 participants come from fresh graduates students of animal husbandry, while BUN Batch 3 to 5 come from students in agricultural and animal husbandry study programs.

Pratama Rahmatullah, also known as Tama, is one of a BUN Batch 2 program alumni.  The man who was born in Kota 50, Padang, West Sumatra, has aspirations of having his  own poultry farm business in his hometown.  To achieve this goal, Tama saw an opportunity to develop his competencies by participating in BUN Batch 2 program.

Tama  successfully managed to complete the BUN Batch 2 program well, which was implemented from March to August 2021.  During the program, Tama is placed in the Cirebon operational area, Talaga cluster and  assigned to accompany two farmers, Dicky Syamsul and Oman Suherman. Tama performed admirably throughout the program, increasing the farmer's iIndex pPerformance (IP) from 235 to 350 and from 263 to 336. It is not an easy task, given that the Talaga cluster is located on a hill where the weather is unpredictable, and caused another difficult challenge to increase  the IP of broiler chickens.

After graduated, Tama continue his career at PT Ciomas Adisatwa as a Field Officer in the Palangkaraya Unit, Central Kalimantan. Tama completed two months of on-the-job training (OJT) at Kandang Kasri in Malang before officially becoming a field officer, followed by three months of probation. Mr. Efendi Syahputra, the Head of Unit Ciomas Palangkaraya, is satisfied with Tama's performance, as he has successfully completed his probation period and has been assigned as the Field Officer of Ciomas Unit Palangkaraya.

Tama's ability and competency, according to Mr. Efendi, are excellence compare to  other colleagues who join at the same time with Tama. "Indeed, there is a difference in technical knowledge of broiler chickens between BUN alumni and non-BUN alumni. Tama consistently outperforms his peers, especially in the “close house” cage system." Tama also brings an innovation to the Palangkaraya Unit by developing a template to measure the wind speed using Microsoft Excel. "I was also surprised when Tama created the template, because it was extremely useful for us, particularly for the field officer, in calculating wind speed. It can now be calculated automatically thanks to the formula ", Mr. Efendi stated online.

Mr. Efendi hopes that there will be  more BUN alumni who will be working at PT Ciomas Adisatwa, particularly in the Kalimantan Unit, where the area for poultry farming is still developing and thus requires capable manpower to develop.
