Maximizing Yields and Optimizing Costs: Highlights from Sentra Bertani Competition (Subang-Indramayu)

05 Jun 2025

On Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, Gebyar Panen Bertani for the Subang and Indramayu regions was held at Alun-Alun Haurgeulis, Indramayu. The event marked the final stage of the Sentra Bertani Competition (SBC), an initiative by Edufarmers International to guide, empower, and challenge farmers to achieve maximum yields while maintaining cost efficiency. Through months of intensive mentoring, field support, and training through our Farmers Field School, farmers were introduced to improved agricultural practices aimed at increasing productivity and promoting long-term sustainability.

The offline gathering brought together more than 200 farmers and representatives from the local government to celebrate the successful completion of the program. The event opened with welcoming remarks and continued with insightful presentations from the competition finalists, who shared their farming experiences, results, and key lessons learned, along with tips and strategies for maximizing performance while reducing costs. These activities were followed by a quiz with door prizes, which added a lively and interactive element to the event. The program concluded with the announcement of the winners and a celebratory music performance.

The top honor of the Sentra Bertani Competition was awarded to the Gabus Wetan 9 group, which earned the highest score of 90.64.  The scoring was based on three key metrics: productivity, cost efficiency, and active participation; all of which the group excelled in. Led by Mr. Yoyo Cartoyo, the group achieved an estimated yield of 10.71 tons per hectare, nearly double the province average of 5,8 ton/ha (Badan Pusat Statistik Provinsi Jawa Barat 2024).

Mr. Yoyo expressed his appreciation for the program and its partners, stating, "I truly hope this program continues, as it provides valuable insights for farmers. I also hope BBB (Benih Berkah Berseri) and Prima Agrotech will keep supporting us with their excellent products."

Edufarmers International extends special thanks to Benih Berkah Berseri (BBB), the main sponsor whose support made the competition possible, as well as to Prima Agrotech, the local government, and every farmer who participated. This initiative exemplifies the powerful synergy between public, private, and community sectors in advancing Indonesia’s agricultural development.

In alignment with our tagline, #AdaUntukPetani, this initiative reflects Edufarmers International’s ongoing mission to uplift farmers not just through short-term support, but by building long-term capabilities, confidence, and community. We are now preparing for the next Gebyar Panen Bertani in Garut this mid-June, as we continue our commitment to expanding impact and cultivating a more resilient agricultural future across Indonesia.
