Becoming an agent of change starts with small steps that grow bigger to create an impact on a larger society. This also applies to the agricultural sector—there’s no instant change for the better.

Attended by 60 participants from across Indonesia, the first webinar organized by Bertani Academy successfully provided new insights into the agricultural world, especially for the younger generation, who are now being touted as agents of change for the future. Held online on August 23, 2024, here’s a recap of the highlights that Edufams should note as inspiration for advancing the agricultural sector in Indonesia.

Becoming a Content Creator: Bringing a Multiplier Effect to the Agricultural Sector

Lately, becoming a content creator has become one of the most promising careers for young people. Regardless of background, anyone can become a content creator as long as they are willing to put in the effort and stay consistent. This is also true for Agung Hartadi, owner of the YouTube channel Pecah Telur, who has now reached 1 million subscribers thanks to his content about agriculture, livestock, and entrepreneurship from various successful figures. Even without a formal background in agriculture, Agung seized the opportunity that was popular at the time when he launched his YouTube channel—about home gardening during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

As a successful content creator in videography, Agung Hartadi revealed that it is important to please the viewers' eyes, in addition to delivering inspirational stories and following trends in society and social media.

While building Pecah Telur, he rented a professional camera for a year to produce visually appealing content to support his storytelling. Agung also leveraged friendships and networks to create quality work.

"The key to becoming a content creator is that we have to be willing to put in the effort in terms of time, practice, and networking to ensure that the channel we build remains consistent with the values we started with," said Agung during the webinar.

As part of the younger generation in the agricultural sector, Sondang is seizing this moment to make a real contribution, both directly and through social media. Concerned about the food chain that serves as the lifeblood of society, Sondang maximized her potential while participating in the Bertani Untuk Negeri (Farming for the Nation) batch 8 program as an FDA chili commodity participant in Cianjur, West Java.

Interacting and exchanging ideas with the partnered farmers became part of Sondang’s daily activities throughout the BUN 8 program. In agriculture, it’s not just about planting seeds and harvesting crops—it goes beyond that. Skills such as innovation, community service, creativity, and entrepreneurship are honed to create efficient and environmentally friendly farming. Through her BUN 8 experience, she learned that farming is essential to life on earth.

"Farming is not just about cultivating crops, it’s about building the nation. Be passionate and tireless farmers who sustain the world," she said while delivering a presentation to her fellow participants.

Sharing insights during this session sparked a variety of questions from other young people who also aspire to join BUN 9. Sondang emphasized the importance of maintaining communication, adaptation, and cultural understanding to ensure that their service to partnered farmers aligns with the goal of Bertani Untuk Negeri.
